Protocol Zero is quite simply our zero defects program. This protocol is the summation of all procedures we apply at all stages of cork production aimed at the complete elimination of defects.
While much of the control components were in place, the concept came together in 2016 with the advent of 100% TCA testing.
These controls are primarily aimed at TCA, especially our dual batch and 100% individual cork testing programs. These have been very effective and since implementation, we have had no returns due to TCA.
But we also strive to eliminate visual and structural defects and to insure complete homogeneity as our final shipped products.
Extended aging, ozone water treatments, full automation and the use of Mylar bags are all means towards this end.
“We were the first cork company to incorporate TCA testing for every cork as a standard procedure. By focusing on premium natural corks, we can work at a slower, more meticulous pace than the larger industrial producers. This slower pace allows for continuous in-line screening of all corks rather than batch-by-batch selection.”
